Sydney and Ryan’s fall Ann Arbor, Michigan engagement session was a highlight of my busy fall season. These two are so fun to be around, incredibly kind humans, and their energy together is so sweet to witness. Sydney and Ryan drove up all the way from southern Indiana for their engagement session. Ann Arbor is the place that started it all for them and it’s also where their wedding at Ann Arbor City Club will be next fall.
I spent about two hours with Sydney and Ryan one fall weekday evening. We started their engagement session at Nickel’s Arcade downtown where we dodged some University of Michigan students making their way around campus and town. Then we made our way towards Main Street and the sun started peeking through the clouds..
From there, we quickly drove over to Greenwood Street. Every year, students hold a big block party at the start of the school year and that’s where Sydney and Ryan met! They first started talking on the porch of one of the Greenwood Houses and from there, their friend groups connected. Over time, their friendship turned into a relationship and here were are today. So of course, they wanted to check out the little street where it all started. And Greenwood famously (on campus) has tons of shoes on the power lines.
We spent the second half of the evening at Nicholas Arboretum, enjoying the very early stages of the fall colors in the trees and the open fields of the area. Sydney and Ryan love being outside and enjoying hikes together just as much as they love a great cocktail bar. With so much room to run around and roam, the Arb is always a favorite of mine for engagement and wedding photos. Sydney’s maroon sweater with Ryan’s charcoal grey sweater looked perfect for the season and environment. The sweaters gave it all a cozy casual vibe while leaving them as the center of focus in the photos. (Check this out for more tips on what to wear during your engagement sessions).
Sydney and Ryan’s fall Ann Arbor, Michigan engagement was the perfect way to celebrate the city where they met and got engaged. After our session, they made the drive back to Indiana where they live today. Not that you need one, but engagement sessions are the perfect excuse to take a walk down memory lane and revisit places you love or that are sentimental to your story. Whether that’s your home, the downtown area nearby or out of state, you’ll always appreciate your engagement photos even more when you choose a location that means something to you. I’m so looking forward to Sydney and Ryan’s Ann Arbor, Michigan wedding next fall!
