Sunset Point Surprise Proposal on Belle Isle | Brian and Maureen

Brian orchestrated a magical surprise proposal for Maureen at Sunset Point on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. Brian and I have been a part of the same gym for several years no so it was extra special to be a part of this special moment. With careful planning and a stroke of luck, their love story reached new heights on this special Sunday afternoon. I mean seriously, it was meant to be in every way. 

Brian and Maureen love to hang out downtown and explore all things Detroit so sunset point on Belle Isle was the perfect, sentimental location for them. Since it’s a place they go to fairly often, it was meaningful, but would blend in to their regular weekend plans without tipping off Maureen. 

Sunday morning, despite it raining all morning, Brian texted me and had decided to stick with Belle Isle rain or shine. And when the afternoon rolled around, as I drove to Belle Isle and it started pouring, I was wondering how on earth he was going to convince Maureen to go on a stroll at sunset point (and how I was going to keep my cameras dry while hiding). But, as if someone had planned the weather for Brian, the rain stopped just ten minutes before they arrived on Belle Isle and right after Maureen said yes, it was totally sunny (and hot as ever)! Talk about a memorable Sunday. 

After soaking in the moment for a bit, we took a few photos in front of the Detroit skyline before they were off to celebrate with friends and family. Maureen was laughing thinking about how this was such a regular old Sunday. They had spent the morning watching golf and hanging out at home and now she was engaged!?! Seeing how excited and totally surprised Maureen was was my favorite part. And as to how Brian got her to Belle Isle in the rain? They had been planning to picnic on Belle Isle for a while and at that point, she was set on it. Brian also loves the rain so to her, there was nothing out of the ordinary happening for them. Wild!

I did some serious espionage behind one of two bushes at the end of Belle Isle, overlooking Sunset Point while trying really hard for Maureen not to notice me. They sipped on champagne, chatted for a while, and then Brian went in for a hug (my signal that this was it). And ta da, under clear skies, he dropped down on one knee and she said yes! And can we talk about the rock…
