Claire and Travis’ Plymouth, Michigan engagement session is one of my favorites to date! We captured their love in the charmingl settings of downtown Plymouth and Maybury State Park. These too were down for anything, and even though they said they were awkward in front of the camera (not true at all!) they had no problem letting themselves enjoy the time together, embrace the silly moments and laugh at…everything throughout our 2 hours together. I loved it and so did the camera!
I met up with Claire and Travis at Plymouth Coffee Co. before we started making our way down to the fountain at Kellogg Park, working around an unanticipated weekday evening small concert, blocked streets and crowds. While we couldn’t make it to the Plymouth Theater with the concert, luckily, the fountain area and nearby historic Wilcox House were free of most pedestrians. And with the haziness of the skies thanks to wildfires in Canada, despite a fairly sunny evening, everything had a soft, glowing light, perfect for photos.
Claire wore a summer-y white dress while Travis looked dashing in a button-down shirt and khakis. They wanted to wear two outfits across their engagement session, one slightly more formal followed by a casual look. So their first outfit was perfect and made sense with the streets of Plymouth.
When deciding on what to wear for your engagement photos, always prioritize comfort. And neutral colors, like Claire and Travis’ outfits are always best. Whites, beiges and grays will give you a nice, even skin tone, since they don’t reflect any funky colors (like green or red can) and they’re easy to coordinate with one another. Black and subtle patterns are flattering for everyone but details in black can get lost in photos. I loved their outfit choices; it felt like them, they were comfortable and able to move easily, and between the two outfits and locations, it offered a lot of variety in style and vibes.
Transitioning to a more casual look, Claire and Travis donned jeans, sneakers, and comfortable tops. We reunited at Maybury State Park where the hazy sunset and fields of high grass became our playground. From running around and laying in the grass, I took advantage of the wide open spaces with no one else around. Check out how their photos turned out below!
Claire and Travis’ downtown Plymouth and Maybury State Park engagement session was a great way to document this exciting time in their lives. They’re both from the Plymouth area and we got to play to their more formal and more playful sides. I can’t wait for their fall wedding at Pine Lake Country Club in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
