I met Miriam when she was the maid of honor at Tess and Matt’s wedding the year prior in Rochester Hills, Michigan and she and Michael got engaged shortly after over the Christmas holiday. They were at his sister’s house for Christmas Eve and while opening presents, Miriam got a huge gift with champagne bottles and before she knew it, Michael was down on one knee. And obviously she said yes, because here we are, and these two are now married!
Michael is two years older than Miriam, and in high school, Miriam admits she had the biggest crush on him but he took a few years to come around. They lost contact after he graduated and for 5 years, they both dated other people and did their own thing. But in true millennial fashion, while out with her friends one night in Royal Oak, Michigan, Michael matched with Miriam on Tinder and that was the start of it all!
After dating for several years and moving in together, they started planning their dream fall wedding but as with many couples of 2020, their original plans were derailed with COVID-19 and so they decided to get married on their original wedding date in their backyard.
In honor of Miriam’s Jewish heritage, they held a more traditional ceremony with their family before flipping their backyard for a fun and casual reception with friends. After their first-look and photos, with their wedding party and parents around them, Miriam and Michael signed the Ketubah and then married under a chuppah Miriam’s dad built. They followed the ceremony with drinks, appetizers and speeches before sneaking off for more photos along the lake.
Later, they opened up their backyard for the best kind of “reception” complete with a Hunter House Hamburgers food truck, drinks and yard games. DJ Chris London brought the energy and Miriam and her girls got comfortable in their matching sweatshirts and hoodies. My kind of reception if you ask me!
When we first chatted, Miriam told me that she was just hoping to be cool, calm and collected on her wedding day and despite everything 2020 threw at their plans and trying to balance tradition, parent’s wishes and their own, Covid restrictions and everything else that comes with planning a wedding, they couldn’t have been more cool, calm and collected.
Miriam and Michael’s wedding was everything I love about intimate weddings – unique, personal and all about celebrating each other. Congratulations to the newlyweds! Thank you for letting me walk so closely with you on your special day. I can’t wait to see where life takes you both.
