As a University of Michigan alum, I love every opportunity I get to go back to Ann Arbor and wonder through campus and town. It was so getting to hang out with Ashley and Lew (and Pepper, their pup) for their fall downtown Ann Arbor engagement session. While I was at UofM, I figure skated and Ashley was one of my coaches! So it was amazing when she reached out about photographing her wedding!
Both Ashley and Lew work in the athletic department of the University and live in Ann Arbor. This made the downtown area and Nichols Arboretum the perfect, meaningful location for their session. We met at Grizzly Peak Brewing Co. and started our time with a beer before roaming up Liberty Street to Nickel’s Arcade, which is where Lew proposed!
After an outfit change, we made the quick drive over to the Arb where their dog Pepper joined for a few photos. A friend of Ashley’s brought Pepper along and was essentially the “dog handler” while we got a few engagement pictures with their dog. A furry friend (or three) are always invited to your photo sessions and having someone on dog duty is the best way to go about it! This way, the two of you and me can be hands free when we need to and the dog can come in and out of the photos more easily.
For Ashley and Lew’s downtown Ann Arbor engagement session, we were lucky and still got some color on the trees. I can’t wait for their Frutig Farms summer wedding! Keep scrolling to check out this fall Michigan engagement session (and how cute Pepper is!)
