A Modern Pakistani Wedding in Detroit Michigan | Jasmine and Mohammad

From first connecting with Jasmine and Mohammad over Zoom, I was so excited for their modern Pakistani wedding in Detroit, Michigan. We all chatted from 3 different states (Jasmine and Mohammad were long-distance at the time) and hearing their plans was so fun. They told me how Jasmine lives in Washington state and they met when she came to Michigan to visit one of her best friends that had moved here. She took Jasmine out to dinner with a group of friends and one of those friends was Mohammad! The next day, Mohammad texted her to grab sushi and visit Stony Creek Metropark. Soon after, Jasmine flew back to Washington and Friday nights became date nights over Zoom with take out and hours of talking. 

A few months later, Mohammad flew to Washington with his family to visit Jasmine and so their families could meet in person for the first time. While at dinner, he proposed to Jasmine with their families surrounding them! They began planning their summer wedding in Michigan for the following year, after Jasmine would finish her BSN degree. But along the way, they impulsively decided to elope in the courthouse of Jasmine’s college town after she graduated and to end the year with a bang. They celebrated their elopement in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho with a mini honeymoon, secret from most except very close family. 

But despite their slight change in plans, Jasmine and Mohammad still wanted to celebrate with all of their friends and family in Michigan. They planned a modern Pakistani wedding at Greenfield Manor for 300 guests, celebrating their cultures and traditions but with some twists that were true to Jasmine and Mohammad. 

Because they were already married, Jasmine and Mohammad wanted this day to be fun, relaxed, and they really wanted to prioritize a lot of time for the two of them to be together and take it in. When they’re together, they love to travel, explore and be outdoors so when planning out their timeline, we set aside several hours for photos after their first-look. We met on Belle Isle for their first-look in front of the James Scott Memorial Fountain before taking some photos with their fun rental car for the day. Jasmine wanted to incorporate some greenery and nature into their day making the fields surrounding the Belle Isle Lighthouse a perfect next stop. 

 Mohammad loves downtown Detroit so our next stop was Woodward Avenue downtown. And because why not, we made a quick pit stop at Huddle for some delicious soft serve to break the summer heat. We made our way back to Belle Isle where Jasmine did a first-look with her dad before they all traveled to the venue together. 

At Greenfield Manor, their guests began arriving, ready to kick off an evening full of dancing, music and the most delicious food. With an excited and crowded room, Mohammad came in with the traditional Zefa entrance and dance before Jasmine was escorted in by her father to be handed off to Mohammad. The rest of the evening was spent dancing, eating and celebrating, ending the night with their cake cutting and their first dance. 

Jasmine and Mohammad’s modern Pakistani wedding in Detroit, Michigan was an honor to be a part of. I love so much how they found their own balance between tradition and doing their own thing making it the perfect-for-them way to celebrate their elopement and marriage! There’s a time and a place to keep with tradition, but if there’s one day in your life you should do things your way, I think it’s your wedding day.
