Cocktails and Sunsets Engagement Session in Detroit | Emily and Michael 

Emily and Michael are such a cool couple and it was such a treat to hang out for their cocktails and sunsets engagement session in Detroit. Together, Emily and Michael love trying out new bars and restaurants and they’re whiskey club members at Detroit City Distillery in Eastern Market. And the Distillery is actually where Michael proposed to Emily! So of course, when it came time for their Michigan summer engagement session, we had to incorporate Detroit City Distillery. We met at the distillery and enjoyed a cocktail while working around the Thursday night summer bar crowd for a few photos inside. When Michael proposed, one of the distillery’s bartenders, Jessie, helped him so she even came to meet us for a quick cameo in their photos. Then, we stepped outside to enjoy the sunshine in Eastern Market before driving to Belle Isle. They both love Detroit and wanted to incorporate some iconic Detroit landmarks in their photos while also taking in the summer weather and some greenery making Belle Isle the perfect second location. 

As the sun began to set, we met at the James Scott Memorial Fountain before making our way to the north end of Belle Isle. I love the way the sun hits the tall grass during summer evenings, making for perfect sunset grassy field engagement pictures. And finally, we rounded out the evening with a stop at sunset point for a few photos with the Detroit skyline in the backdrop.

We lucked out with a perfect Michigan summer night and clear skies, perfect for Emily and Michael’s cocktails and sunsets engagement session in Detroit. I love that they chose a meaningful location for their engagement session and in planning to shoot during the two hours before sunset, we had a perfect golden hour. I can’t wait for their intimate wedding at Cantoro’s Italian Market! I already know it’s going to be one hell of a celebration (and meal!).
