Boho Glam Multicultural Wedding at the Masonic Temple | Courtney and George

Courtney and George’s boho glam multicultural wedding at the Masonic Temple brought together their families from nearby and far for a beautiful day to celebrate their love. They met on a dating app and went on their first date for lunch at The Emory in Ferndale, Michigan. A year and half later, George proposed to Courtney on the beach while they were traveling in Savannah, Georgia. Together, Courtney and George love to travel and go on adventures, from scuba diving to kayaking and everything in between. 

Ever since meeting them, Courtney and George have been living a nomadic lifestyle, moving and living all around the country. We planned their wedding day while they lived in Wyoming but when they saw their wedding photos a few weeks after the wedding, they were living in Massachusetts. 

Both originally from metro Detroit, Michigan, it made sense to plan their wedding in Detroit. They love history and architecture so the Masonic Temple in downtown Detroit was the perfect venue for their 200+ guests. 

I started the day with Courtney in the Masonic’s bridal suite while Madison began with George at the DoubleTree Suites hotel nearby. Courtney had some of my favorite boho accessories in her wedding day attire; from bunny tail in her hair piece, fringe on her dress and pearls on her shoes. I had so much fun playing with all of her details and accessories in the morning. She had custom earrings and a necklace made by Rebel Nell using pieces of her mom’s wedding dress and dried flowers from George. 

With no real plan yet on what she would do with them, Courtney had dried and saved the flowers that George had given her over the years. Their wedding day was ultimately the perfect thing to use all of those special dried petals for! They created little packets of flower petals that were placed on each guest’s chair at the ceremony to toss as they came back down the aisle. So of course, I had to incorporate these in the photos of all her beautiful details too.

They held their ceremony in the Masonic Temple’s chapel and were married by a friend of theirs. For a sweet touch, their beloved pup, Chihiro, was their “best girl” and came down the aisle in her flower crown, dress and leash that said “I do!” I love the way the red carpet of the chapel happened to tie in their burnt orange color theme of the bridal party and reception throughout their photos. It made for a wonderful coincidence and a striking pop of color in their ceremony wedding photos. 

Following the ceremony and family photos, we went outside to see Courtney and George’s photo up on the Masonic’s marquee sign! After a few wedding party photos outside, working around the crowds lining up for a concert next door, we headed inside. Courtney and George chose to have dinner together in private while their guests were at cocktail hour in order to take a breather and spend some quality time together. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with drinks and the sounds of a saxophone playing. For a fun touch, guests could get a caricature of themselves done throughout the reception to take home as a souvenir of the wedding! Such a fun touch. 

The Masonic Temple’s Crystal Ballroom was glowing with their burnt orange and golden wedding decor. Courtney and George opted for a sweetheart table at the front of the room with a greenery wall and custom neon sign of their new family name behind them! And their dessert table was to die for. I truly did “want it all.” On each table, they had fun facts about their relationship and a little quiz game for their guests based on the month of them dating. Table 15 had facts about what they did in their 15th month together as a couple – another personal touch that guests loved going through to learn about Courtney and George’s relationship!

After introducing their wedding party, their MC, DJ and performer, Naseer Deeb and his team got the room super excited and high energy for their grand entrance from the balcony. In honor of George’s middle eastern background, they held a Zeffa style dance entrance and were escorted in with a drummer before being quickly surrounded by family and friends on the dance floor! After breaking a slight sweat, they cut their wedding cake and guests were seated for speeches and dinner. Later in the evening, they kicked the party off with their first dance. From then on, guests took to the dance floor all night, enjoyed cocktails and dessert and got their caricatures done. It was truly a fun party for everyone involved!
