Jennifer and David planned a beautiful romantic intimate wedding at the Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan. Jennifer wanted the winter day to feel glamorous, romantic and special for 24 of their family members. After getting engaged while on a trip abroad in Italy, Jennifer and David looked around at the various historic and design-forward hotels in metro Detroit. I mentioned the newer Daxton Hotel and after a visit, it turned out to be the perfect hotel for them. With modern design and artwork, posh yet cozy spaces and a beautiful bar in the lobby, it was a perfect complement for their moodier gemstone wedding color theme.
Jennifer and David met as students as Grand Valley State University when they were put in a group together for a marketing class. Funny enough, just a few weeks before the semester had started, Jennifer had been complaining to a friend about how people say they met their partner in class and how unrealistic that was. Turns out, she just needed to speak it into the universe and she’d be proven wrong! After a while, David asked Jennifer to coffee and they’ve been together ever since. We even went back to Grand Valley’s campus along with the Down Gardens for their engagement session earlier in the year.
Jennifer got ready with her mom and sisters in the Artisan Terrace Suite while David got ready down the hall in the Terrace King Suite. Each with exquisite and refined taste and an eye for details, I was drooling over the details. From Jennfer’s statement Lulu’s shoes to David’s eye-catching emerald green custom suit from Tailored Detroit, photographing their time getting ready and their fashion details was so fun. Jennifer’s bouquet and David’s boutonniere from Lee Floral Design with rich, moody gemstone colors, were a perfect pop of color.
Jennifer and David chose to wait until the altar to see one another. Held in one of the parlors at The Daxton Hotel, throughout the ceremony, their families sat on blush pink and blue suede chairs and couches. Jennifer and David were married by their friend, Kelsey, in front of the large marble fireplace. I loved how they had their mom’s be their witnesses and sign their marriage license.
Following the ceremony, they enjoyed a cocktail hour for the family while Jennifer, David and I braved the cold outside for their wedding portraits. Then, they went to enjoy a few minutes away with a good cocktail at The Daxton’s lobby bar.
Meanwhile, the Daxton had prepared a lovely meal for the family as they moved into the neighboring parlor room for a romantic candlelit dinner to round out the evening. Their dinner was beautiful with candles galore, wedding photos from each of the couples there on display and so many sweet moments between family members.
Jennifer and David’s romantic intimate wedding at the Daxton Hotel was one of my favorites of the year. With beautiful design details and a touch of old money vibes, just like Jennifer envisioned, it was a perfect celebration. Just one week prior to their winter wedding, I photographed Kate and Josh’s large winter wonderland wedding, also at the Daxton Hotel. It was so fun for me, as a Detroit wedding photographer, to visit the same venue twice back to back but tell two very different stories with different styles and priorities for their wedding day. It just goes to show that finding the right venue is important, but what you do with it and how you make the day all your own, is the most important.
