Carrie and Jeff’s historic Greenfield Village wedding was the perfect modern and romantic wedding day with a nod to the historic charm of The Henry Ford and Detroit.
Studying the same major, Carrie and Jeff met in college at Michigan State University during a class they shared. But they actually started talking when a mutual friend introduced them at a party and started dating about a year later. Fast forward and the two got married on their 11th anniversary! Having been together for so long, their summer wedding day was a highly anticipated day amongst their friends and family. You could feel the love and excitement surrounding Carrie and Jeff across every step of the day.
Working with Carrie and Jeff was an absolute dream! Carrie is a natural born planner and has a very creative side which meant they were both very intentional in the details and how they designed their wedding. They truly designed a day that was unique and completely about them (as it should be!). Earlier in the year, we all made the trip up north, for their Traverse City engagement session. Carrie and Jeff spend a lot of time together there at Carrie’s family cabin and wanted to capture that important location for them too. I knew then that their day was going to be stunning and very special.
When I first chatted with Carrie, she told me they had chosen to hold the ceremony at Martha-Mary Chapel and the reception at the Eagle Tavern at The Henry Ford because it was the perfect representation of their love of history, antiques and Detroit. Very talented and skilled with a letterpress, Carrie even designed all of their stationery, from their invitations to the seating chart and menus herself. That same attention to detail carried over to her dress. When Carrie couldn’t find a dress she loved that was modern but with vintage touches that would compliment the venue, she opted for a custom gown by Katerina Bocci. (Stunning!) And with the help of florals and coordination from Jen House Design, Carrie and Jeff nailed the vintage yet glamorous wedding style.
I met Carrie and Jeff to start the day at their Eastern Market Airbnb where they each got ready with their small wedding party on separate floors. From there we snuck over to the outskirts of the eastern market neighborhood where we found a striking blue wall, the perfect backdrop for their first-look. Then we made the short drive to Greenfield Village for photos around the property before their chapel ceremony. And after that, it was party time. They featured Michigan liquors and beers at their bar, took a spin around the carousel with guests during their cocktail hour, and even split an ice cream float (instead of a traditional cake cutting) during their reception. Carrie and Jeff’s historic Greenfield Village wedding at The Henry Ford was the perfect way to celebrate their 11th anniversary and start the rest of their lives together.
