Taking Sam and Holden’s snowy engagement photos along lake Huron in Lexington, Michigan was definitely a session to remember! We booked their winter session a couple of months out, not knowing that the day would bring a beautiful winter day of Michigan. We were all ready to brave the below-20-degrees temperature and bone chilling wind thanks to the help of some hand warmers, coffee with Kahlua and obviously, excitement! The result is one of my favorite engagement sessions to date.
Holden is from Lexington, Michigan, so the main downtown area is sentimental for both of them, making it a perfect location for their photos. Before, we met at the Village Pub for a drink (something I offer up before almost every engagement session). This way we could finally meet in person and catch up on wedding planning and life before kicking things off with a few photos inside the bar.
If you’re planning to change outfits during your engagement session (which you should! #twoforone), I always recommend you start in the more formal outfit or the outfit you’re least excited about. I have a few reasons for this, but for Sam and Holden’s case, we planned their outfit change in time with venturing away from the warmth of the pub to go along the waterfront. This way, in their casual, everyday looks, they would be both warmer and more comfortable to move freely and play in the snow!

I love everything about how Sam and Holden’s snowy engagement photos along Lake Huron turned out. They showed up ready to have a good time (no matter what the elements threw at us) and were willing to get their hands cold and snowy. It was so worth it! I can’t wait for their amazing New Year’s Eve winter wedding at The Eastern in Detroit. But in the meantime, it’s time to design their wedding guest book and see which photos they choose for their save the dates! Need some ideas on what to do after your engagement session? Here are 10 ways to use your engagement photos.
