You probably already know that I’m all about printing your wedding photos so today, I’m sharing 10 reasons you should invest in a wedding album! As a wedding photographer, I don’t consider my job done until I’ve helped you do something with your photos so that you can see them and enjoy them just about everyday (rather than letting them live and die in the cloud).
From a wall display of framed photos in your office to a large acrylic statement print above the mantle, seeing those images everyday means you get to relive your wedding day, at least a short moment, each time you walk past the photos. But wedding albums are my favorite because they tell the full story of the day and can be passed down for generations. So here we go:
Your wedding marks the start of your marriage. Therefore, your wedding album becomes your first heirloom as a family and is something you’ll cherish and can share for years to come.
Print is the one photographic display medium that’s not going anywhere. While digital technology changes, hard drives fail, and so on, paper and ink has been around for centuries and it’s one of the most surefire ways to preserve and backup your photos. How many photos have you taken on your phone that you’ve lost over the years? Maybe your phone just gave up one day, you lost it or spilled your coffee on it and all those photos were just gone. We’ve all been there. But can you say the same about family photo albums, heirlooms and framed prints in your home? One day, you probably won’t be able to give your kids your wedding photos in the cloud because something will have replaced the cloud by then. But I can promise you you’ll be able to physically hand over a printed album.
Trends come and go but a classic, high quality album will last you more than a lifetime and never go out of style.
Honestly, your wedding album isn’t just for the two of you. It’s for everyone involved in celebrating your marriage and wedding and it’s for future generations of your new family that maybe don’t exist yet. Your parents, grandparents, siblings, and future children will all love and cherish the times when they get to look through your wedding album with you. And when the day comes and it’s passed down to your children, it will be your legacy.
You spent months planning your wedding. Why let the celebration only last one day? With a wedding album, you can show off the grand event you put on and relive it every time you look through your album. Not to mention, show it off to friends, families, neighbors or anyone that asks!
There’s something special about seeing your photographs in print, being able to hold and touch the pages. A wall display is one thing, but being able to flip through the pages and hold the book in your lap brings a sense of nostalgia and excitement you can’t get elsewhere.
Whether it’s your future kids asking you who certain people in your wedding party are as they flip through the pages or while in the midst of an argument, a glimpse at your album displayed in your living room bookcase might be just the little reminder you needed to bring you a sense of calmness. Whatever it is, tangible, sentimental objects can spark moments of connection and special conversations that bring you closer to others.
Bonus: They make great gifts! Mini albums (small replicas of your full-size album) make great thank-you or holiday gifts for family, giving them a little piece of your story to have in their home.
You hired your photographer for a reason and though wedding photography is not always thought of as “art” in the traditional sense of the word, it is an expression of your photographer’s viewpoint and creativity. That’s art. And the finished product of a photograph is in a print form, not a .jpg file.
Designing a book – Leather? Suede? Linen? Cream? Mocha? Sailboat? Distressed? Matter? Luster? Designing an album entirely about you and your marriage is FUN! How many times in life do we get to design a book about ourselves and revel in one of the most exciting and memorable days in our lives? Not often. It’s fun! And that can be reason enough for a lot of things if you ask me. On top of that, these handcrafted albums are beautiful pieces that will impress you, your family and friends and they look damn good on your coffee table or shelves.
I worked with a bride whose father passed away just one month after the wedding day. Her wedding album included some of the last photos taken of her dad in good spirits. Those photos and memories are now priceless to her family. We don’t always think about it, but the people we love, the time we get to share with them and our memories are the things that matter most in life. Wedding albums become a priceless heirloom.
You’re already investing in your wedding photography and your memories. To get the most out of your investment, be sure to invest in a high quality professional wedding album to ensure your photos stand up for generations. While it may be tempting to DIY your album, just know that as wedding photographers, we have access to certain specialty album manufacturers and print labs that aren’t available to the public and can work with printers to calibrate colors for the best possible finish. And you know you’ll get it done rather than putting it on your “someday” to-do list…
